The use of power and not the production of marijuana led police to a Spallumcheen property.
On July 2, the RCMP and B.C. Hydro visited a property in the 1600 block of Simons Road to investigate an alleged theft of electricity.
“It was a legal marijuana grow. However, it appears electricity was being stolen to power the growing equipment,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.
It was determined that the operation was allowed under the federal government’s medical marijuana rules.
“No plants were seized,” said Molendyk.
The investigation into alleged electrical theft began in March and that resulted in a search warrant being issued.
According to Molendyk, police continue to investigate the case.
Taken into custody by police were the 39-year-old woman who owns the property and her 39-year-old spouse.
They were later released but are expected to appear in court Sept. 25 on charges of electricity theft.
