VicPD’s Crime Reduction Unit dismantled an amateur counterfeit U.S. currency ring last Friday after the cash was successfully being exchanged at local businesses.
Patrol officers noted an increase in counterfeit U.S. currency in December, which triggered an investigation, said Const. Mike Russell.
Police used covert surveillance to gather evidence, then executed a search warrant on a home in the 1400-block of Harrison St. on Jan. 24.
Inside, officers located the counterfeit manufacturing process, which consisted of a printer and glue sticks. Last week, Russell posted an Instagram video illustrating how easily the counterfeit cash could be identified.
Officers took four people into custody and will be recommending numerous charges, he said.
