Amethyst stolen from Chilliwack stone shop’s showroom

Window smashed at business where purple rock has been on display for nearly 16 years

It sat in the window for nearly 16 years, and now it’s been stolen.

A beautiful amethyst rock has sat in the window of The Swinstones Granite Shop in Chilliwack from about the time they opened. But overnight, someone smashed their showroom window on Yale Road West, and took it for themselves.

“Please keep you eye out for this rock!,” the business posted on their Facebook page on Sunday morning (Jan. 17). “If you see someone trying to sell it please contact us and the RCMP.”

They are hoping that the power of social media will bring it back to them.

“We’ve seen social media do amazing things!” they said.

On Dec. 20, someone also stole an iconic jade boulder that sat outside the Cariboo Jade Shop in Cache Creek. The story was sent all over the province, via news sites and social media. It was eventually recovered and reunited with its owner.
