For Eric Ackerly, Fort St. James is home.

Arriving from Victoria in 1991, Ackerly was ready for a fresh start as he embarked on a mining exploration contract.

Thinking he might only stay a short time, Ackerly is still here, 25 years later.

“This town really grows on a person,” Ackerly said. “I’ve lived here longer than anywhere in my life.”

And Ackerly certainly has lived all over including the east coast and Victoria, British Columbia.

“I’m very fascinated by this area. It’s so unique and there is so much history here,” Ackerly says.

Ackelry also enjoys all of the activities Fort St. James has to offer especially Music on the Meadow.

He has also seen many changes in Fort St. James over the years.

“The people here are amazing, there’s so much diversity,” Ackerly says. “When there are hard times, everyone pulls together. When there is tragedy, everyone is there.”

“This is definitely a place I can call home.”
