The Crown Isle Resort and Golf Community head pro shot his second consecutive 72 Tuesday the in Titleist/FootJoy PGA of BC Championship at Crown Isle.
Entering the final round Wednesday, Jason Andrew sat at even par in a tie for 12th place.
Brad Clapp of the Chilliwack Golf & Country Club continued his strong play with a five-shot lead entering the final round, while Kevin Maxwell of Olympic View Golf Club set a new competitive course record as he rocketed up the leaderboard.
Clapp followed his opening round of 65 with a six-under par 66 on Tuesday, en route to another large leading heading into the final round of a tournament.
In only his past four competitive PGA of BC tournament rounds, Clapp has shot an incredible 30-under par (63,64,65,66=258). Not too shabby considering the current PGA TOUR scoring record is 254, held by Tommy Armour III at the 2003 Valero Texas Open.
“I felt more in control of my game today than I did yesterday” says the Chilliwack native. “I scored better yesterday but felt that today was a much more complete round of golf.”
Clapp had a rough start to the day after starting off two-over par through the first five holes. He later turned it around, going eight under through his last 13 holes.
Not to be outdone, Maxwell bolted up the leaderboard Tuesday, firing an 8-under par 64, breaking Clapp’s course record set less than 24 hours earlier. Maxwell started off hot, making five birdies in the first six holes. The 30-year-old is no stranger to Crown Isle, as he grew up playing junior golf at the course.
Defending Champion Lindsay Bernakevitch of Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club continued his steady play, following up his opening round 70 with a four-under par 68. Bernakevitch sits alone in third place at six under par and will play alongside Clapp and Maxwell in Wednesday’s final group.
Final round tee times began at 7 a.m., while leaders tee off at 10.
