Announcement expected at Langley Hospice Society

Provincial officials will speak at Langley Hospice Society.

Langley Hospice Society is hoping for good things to come from an announcement scheduled for Friday morning.

“We’re hopeful of some good news on the hospice and palliative care front,” said Shannon Todd Booth, spokesperson for the Langley Hospice Society.

Local MLAs Mary Polak and Rich Coleman as well as Township Mayor Jack Froese, David Weir of the BC Centre for Palliative Care and Fraser Health CEO Michael Marchbank.

The announcement is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, March 10, at the society’s offices in Langley City.

The society has been working towards developing a new 15-bed, stand-alone hospice facility.

The $7 million project is almost 50 per cent funded.

In January, Langley MLAs Mary Polak and Rich Coleman announced $900,000 towards creating five more hospice beds in the community.

About $3 million has been raised in total by Langley Hospice Society towards the project.
