Dunsmuir Avenue between First and Fourth Streets in Cumberland will be closed to vehicle traffic this Saturday for the annual Market Day.Part of Empire Days celebrations, Market Day offers visitors and locals alike a chance to enjoy a stroll down the historic main street. Peruse a huge variety of wares, talent and treats available from local merchants, community groups and visiting vendors. It’ll be a great day to shop, eat, dance and play in Cumberland.Start as early as 9 a.m. with a yummy pancake breakfast in the Village Square and then hit the streets for family activities programmed by the Cumberland Community School Society (CCSS). Parents and volunteers will tickle your family’s funny bones, ribs and brains. The day includes a Hula Hoopla!The environment and lunch clubs will showcase their activities and refreshing snacks. The CCSS Intermediate Theatre will display their talent at the Masonic Hall and kids can plant and take home seeds, play goofy games and make a lantern for Monday’s parade.Street vendors will include visual artists, crafters, kid’s clothing, soaps, candles, pottery, jewelry, plants and seedlings and much more. Local shops will offer up designer garments, funky T-shirts, fine chocolates, baked treats, vintage clothes, herbal teas, fair trade coffee, gifts, cards and almost anything else you might want or need.
