A person has died in a two-vehicle crash on Babine Lake Road in the second fatality on Smithers area roads since April 4.

Smithers RCMP and emergency services found the driver of one vehicle deceased at the scene after they were alerted to the crash at about 9 p.m. on April 6.

Police arrested the driver of the second vehicle and that person is being investigated for impaired driving causing death.

The accused received hospital treatment before being transferred back to the RCMP.

Police and the BC Coroners Service are still investigating.

The RCMP said it could not release the name, age or gender of the deceased person at this time.

Last night’s crash occurred two days after a 47-year-old Smithers area man died in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 16 near Moricetown.

The man was a passenger in the vehicle. Three other occupants were treated at Bulkley Valley District Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
