The Golden On Deck interactive survey has wrapped up, with a total of 1,118 completed surveys and attracting over 20,000 page views to the goldenondeck.ca website.
The survey gave Golden and Area A residents a chance to have their voices heard on the topic of what an aquatic centre in Golden would look like.
The results have now been compiled for trends to be examined to inform next steps in the process.
From there, a preferred option for the possible development of a new indoor aquatic facility will be recommended.
The proposal will include a six-lane lap and leisure pool, which 81 per cent of respondents supported.
A hot tub was the most popular recommendation, as well as steam and sauna rooms and a multipurpose room.
Overall, the centre will have a design that would accommodate the possible addition of a gymnasium at a future phase.
All of these recommendations are based on the data collected from the survey and other community engagement initiatives.
While COVID-19 has caused some minor setbacks in the process, the project planning process continues to move forward with the preliminary design plan.
With the results of the public survey and a preferred scheme established, the project team will continue to develop a high-level concept design and final report.
This work will include a site analysis, creation of a conceptual floor plan, and further engineering analysis.
A refined project cost estimate can be expected in the next stage and the identification of possible sponsorship and grants. Once complete, a brochure will be developed to share the information with the community.
