Area pressured to join transit

BX-Silver Star will be written a letter by the Regional District of North Okanagan

Pressure continues to be placed on a local jurisdiction over transit.

The Regional District of North Okanagan board voted Wednesday to write BX-Silver Star director Mike Macnabb and ask thathis area officially join the regional transit service.

“I’m sure they are using it,” said Vernon director Juliette Cunningham of residents in BX-Silver Star.

“The bus may not stop in their area but they can drive to a bus stop and use it.”

While a majority of the board agreed to write the letter, four hands were raised in opposition.

“It’s Area C’s decision as to what service they participate in,” said Rick Fairbairn, director for rural Lumby, which contributes toregional transit.

Macnabb says he has no intention of joining the service and he recently received a call from a resident opposed to fundingtransit.

“I haven’t heard from anyone who wants to be part of the service,” he said.

Beyond BX-Silver Star, Cherryville does not participate in regional transit because of its distant location.
