A Salmon Arm man will be spending three years in jail for a string of armed robberies and attempted robberies that took place over two days in September 2010.
Jeremy R. Mazur, 30, was sentenced April 12.
He was arrested on the railroad tracks in west Salmon Arm after a foot chase with police. At the time of his arrest, he was already awaiting trial for separate incidents of uttering threats, mischief, theft and possession of stolen property.
The September crime spree began Sept. 25 when Mazur, with a black bandana over his face, went into the Mac’s Convenience store, placed a knife on the counter and demanded money from the clerk. He was given cash and then fled on foot.
The following day, Mazur robbed a residence on Third Avenue SE, but did not disturb a 17-year-old boy who was sleeping. Mazur then took a cab to the Petro-Canada store, telling the driver to wait, while he went inside and attempted to rob it. Mazur left empty-handed when the clerk told him to get lost. Mazur then went to the Hideaway Liquor Store and stole a bottle of liquor.
After this, he threatens people in an attempt to get their car keys, including patrons and employees of the Best Western Hotel. When people refused to hand over their keys, Mazur burst into a hotel room, telling a maid to get out. When the maid told him to leave, Mazur fled the hotel and police arrive on scene.
He made an attempt to flee along the rail tracks behind the hotel.
Mazur was identified as having a mental illness which was caused from previous drug abuse.
