Residents in Armstrong and Spallumcheen will have a chance to meet the candidates in the Nov. 19 municipal elections, and ask questions of the candidates, at a pair of forums next week.

The Armstrong Ministerial Association is hosting a pair of forums at the Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church on Pleasant Valley Road.

A forum for the candidates running for council in Armstrong will be held Tuesday, and a forum for the Spallumcheen candidates will go Wednesday evening.

Both forums start at 7 p.m.

Candidates will be on hand to meet residents from 6:30-7 p.m. each night, and there will be coffee and snacks provided prior to the forums.

Eight candidates are seeking the six councillor seats in Armstrong, including incumbents Paul Britton, Shirley Fowler, Ryan Nitchie, Ron (Sully) O’Sullivan, Kelly Rowe and John Trainor.

They are being challenged by Dave McKechnie and Robert Thibeau.

Mayor Chris Pieper was re-elected by acclamation.

In Spallumcheen, councillors Dave Brew and Janice Brown are running for mayor to replace the retiring Will Hansma.

Incumbent councillors Andrew Casson, Christine Fraser and Todd York are looking to retain their seats while being challenged by Tom Boeve, Carolyn Farris, Rachael Ganson, Ed Hanoski and Joe Van Tienhoven.

Incumbent Ralph Leyenhorst decided not to seek re-election.

Besides questions from the moderator, those attending the forums will also be given the opportunity to ask questions of the candidates from the floor.
