Armstrong residents are conserving water.

The city has released its 2016 water consumption report, which shows the annual consumption was the least amount since 2010.

“Consumption levels during May, June and July were significantly lower, even with the higher than normal temperatures experienced,” said Doug MacKay, public works manager.

In 2016, there was slightly more than 100,000 cubic meters of water consumed, the lowest level since 140,000 cubic meters were consumed in 2010.

“Since 2010, there has been a gradual drop in water consumption even though we have a lot more users,” said Mayor Chris Pieper. “It shows things like the water meters and other measures we’ve initiated have proven to be successful.”

Building stats drop

Construction was down slightly in Armstrong in 2016.

The year finished with three residential building permits worth $633,000 issued in December. That was up from one issued in the same month in 2015.

Overall, 48 permits worth slightly more than $9.9 million were issued in 2016, down from 70 in 2015 worth $10.4 million.
