Shopping centre to be built
WILLIAMS LAKE — A shopping centre is expected to be built at the Prosperity Ridge site.
Platform Properties Ltd. states the shopping centre, which will be located near Walmart, will offer about 100,000 square feet of retail space upon full build-out and will bring new retail opportunities, including home improvement, fashion, restaurants and other retailers.
“This is great news for Williams Lake,” said Mayor Kerry Cook. “We have been working with Platform to assist in moving this project forward and we welcome the new retail opportunities and jobs the new Prosperity Ridge Shopping Centre will provide.”
The first phase of Prosperity Ridge Shopping Centre will be open to the public in early 2012.
Vehicle crashes into store
TERRACE — Shoppers and employees of Creative Zone were surprised Feb. 3 when a vehicle crashed into the store’s front window.
According to store owner, Kathy Legault, a driver pulling in front of the store failed to stop and drove directly into the building, shattering the front window and bending the steel window frame and the store’s outside wall.
“She was pulling in, and just seemed to accelerate,” said Legault, who added it looked as though the driver hit the wrong pedal when trying to brake.
She described the driver of the vehicle as an elderly woman accompanied by her sister.
No one was injured in the incident, although Legault said she is still quite shaken up.
After the crash, the passenger in the vehicle proceeded to enter the store to shop.
The vehicle was not badly damaged and was driven away from the scene.
The store will remain open and the window is being fixed.
