A suspect in two Vernon bank robberies is in custody.

On Sept. 9, the suspect in the July 22 heist at the Highway 6 Royal Bank was arrested on a Canada-wide warrant in the Squamish area.

“The major crimes unit is currently working with our local provincial Crown counsel and asking for charge approval for the third robbery that took place at the Royal Bank at the Polson mall Aug. 24,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

Christopher David Prokopchuk, 32, is scheduled to make a court appearance in Vancouver provincial court Thursday.

“There is some indications that he will appear in the Vernon courts at a later date either by video conferencing or in person to deal with the charges stemming from the Royal Bank robberies,” said Molendyk.
