Two Maple Ridge men face firearms charges after a drunken shootout near Mission.

Ridge Meadows RCMP were called around 11:30 p.m. Saturday after shots were fired by the occupants of a pickup truck, which had just left Stave Falls.

Officers found the pickup truck as it drove up to the intersection of 248th Street and Dewdney Trunk Road.

Police arrested the 22-year-old driver and found two guns that were inside the vehicle.

A 20-year-old man was arrested shortly after.

“We do know that alcohol played a part in this event, and want to warn the public about the possible serious consequences when there is a combination of alcohol and firearms,” said Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.

The men were released from police custody with strict bail conditions.

Renter caught

Surveillance footage led police to a thief who stole from the home of her landlord in Maple Ridge on Sunday.

Ridge Meadows RCMP allege the 36-year-old woman, who rents a basement suite in the house on 107th Avenue, was captured on camera around 9:30 a.m. entering the top floor, where she was not permitted to be.

Cpl. Alanna Dunlop said the woman took clothing from the house and left. Police viewed the surveillance video, and arrested the woman shortly after and also found the stolen items.

The woman was held in police custody overnight for a court appearance on Monday.

Pedestrian struck

A young girl escaped serious injury when she was struck by a car Saturday evening in Maple Ridge.

The seven-year-old darted into traffic on 102A Avenue around 6:30 p.m.

The driver of the car had just picked up a passenger and police said the vehicle was not travelling fast.

The girl was taken to hospital with abrasions and a possible broken bone in her ankle.

Police are asking parents to remind their children to look both ways before crossing a street, especially where there are parked vehicles that can impede a motorist’s view.

“Although speed was not a factor in this incident, it shows that you don’t have to be going fast for a bad event to possibly happen,” said Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.

Driver caught

Police are recommending hit-and-run charges against a Maple Ridge man who backed into another car, then left the scene.

Officers saw the 32-year-old man hit a parked Ford Mustang on North Avenue near 225th Street around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police followed the Jeep he was in and stopped it on Lougheed Highway.

The Mustang sustained approximately $6,000 in damage.

Car thief

Ridge Meadows RCMP are looking for a man who pulled a knife on witness who caught him stealing from a car.

A van was stolen around 10:15 a.m. from a property on Penny Lane in Maple Ridge. Police said the suspect abandoned the vehicle a short distance away and was making his getaway when confronted by a witness.

The man then produced a knife, threatening the witness in order to make his escape.

He was picked up by another man who was driving a grey Honda, possibly a Civic.

Police said the suspect managed to steal a purse from the van, which contained cash and identification.

He is described as a South Asian man, approximately 30 years old, 6-1 with a stocky build.
