TERRACE RCMP are investigating after someone tried to burn down the Best Western Inn early this morning, Oct. 31.

“ Terrace Forensic Identification Unit and the Terrace Fire Department are on scene investigating. It

is very fortunate that this fire did not get going.”, says Terrace RCMP media relations officer Const.

Angela Rabut.

At approximately 2 a.m, a Best Western employee saw faint smoke lingering near the ceiling and

smelled something like an electrical fire, said police.

He called the Terrace Fire Department and the hotel maintenance man.

Both checked out the area but a fire was not found. A motor was found to be squeaking and it was assumed that this caused the smoke and smell, said police.

Later this morning, a Best Western employee discovered a broken window and a burnt chair in a different

part of the building.

A rock had been thrown through the front window facing Kalum St. and a  second object thrown through the window appears to have started the fire, said police.

Terrace Fire Department and the Terrace RCMP were notified at about 8 a.m. and both are on scene investigating.
