With the addition of a dedicated art workshop space in the Lake Country Art Gallery’s Art House space, the Lake Country Art Gallery has unveiled a slate of four two-day signature workshops in 2014.
These workshops are designed to offer participants an in depth art making experience that will take one idea and really dive into it.
The first of the four classes is Illustrative Painting with Kelowna-based artist Jolene Mackie on May 24 and 25. The workshop will focus on combining images and imagination; realism and fantasy to create whimsical works of art with engaging stories. Participants will engage in all aspects of making a new artwork: inspiration and planning, surface preparation, sketches and preparatory drawings, colour palette, as well as Mackie’s tricks and tips for creating life and light in a painting.
Mackie is an artist living and working in Kelowna. Her current series of work bridges her fascination with the great unknowns like the sea and the sky. By exploring these themes Mackie takes the opportunity to reflect on the brevity of human existence and find joy and whimsy in the imagination. Mackie holds a BFA from Emily Carr University and a graphic design diploma from Vancouver Career College.
Mackie’s work is also included in the current Art Through the Age – an intergenerational exhibition at the Lake Country Art Gallery. The exhibition runs until June 6. Her work is also the featured mural currently installed on the front gallery wall.
