An Ashcroft man died in the early hours of Jan. 26 after his vehicle collided with an oncoming transport truck on Hwy 97 north of Cache Creek.

At approximately 2 am on Wednesday, RCMP were called to the scene of the accident about 5 km north of Cache Creek by the Bonaparte Reserve. The southbound passenger vehicle was located off the road after having collided with a northbound transport truck and trailer. The driver of the car, a 52 year old Ashcroft man, was attended to by BC Ambulance and Ashcroft Fire Rescue and was transported to the Ashcroft hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Southeast District Traffic Services attended along with Interior Roads, the Ministry of Highways and the BC Coroners Service. A detailed examination of the scene, supported by a statement from the driver of the transport truck, indicates the car crossed the centre line and struck the side of the transport truck and lead trailer of the B-Train.

The driver of the transport truck was shaken but did not sustain any injuries. Hwy 97 saw intermittent and brief closures, but was open later in the morning. Central Interior Traffic Services is continuing the investigation. Road and weather conditions are not believed to have contributed to the collision.
