The Village of Ashcroft has been advised that Canada Post is considering putting an end to Saturday counter service in the Ashcroft outlet and distributing those hours throughout the week.
“Of course we’re not happy with the cutback in hours,” said Mayor Andy Anderson when Council was informed at the Nov. 10 meeting. “We’re aware of changes to the industry.”
Coun. Alice Durksen was concerned that some people can only access the Post Office on Saturdays.
“I hate to see the Saturday go,” said Coun. Jerry Fiddick.
“But if the workload doesn’t justify it…” said Anderson.
A letter to Council from local area manager Karen Plessis, said “A careful review has determined that we have a very small number of local customers on Saturday.” She said they would discuss the concerns with local staff members and advise Council of the outcome.
Currently, counter service is available on Saturday morning. If the Saturday is eliminated, it is expected the hours will be added to extend the daily open hours.
