Vanishing vicious dog

On April 6 at 7:30pm police received a call from a resident of Cache Creek advising that a vicious pit-bull was running loose in the vicinity of Collins Road. The caller said he did not know where the owner lived, but that the dog had been a problem for some time. He had not seen the dog for an hour, and didn’t know where it was. The caller was advised to contact the Thompson-Nicola Regional District’s Animal Control Contractor at 1-877-379-2821. It’s a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week service that dispatches calls to local contractors. For information about a proposed new legislation targeting irresponsible pet owners, see the story on p. 11.

Don’t be a slowpoke on the road

On April 7 at 2:15pm police received a report of a white Nissan Sentra with Alaska plates which was actively blocking other drivers from passing him along Hwy. 1 between Lytton and Cache Creek. The driver would speed up to above the posted limit in passing zones and then drop down below the speed limit when the passing lane ended. The vehicle was not located, and motorists are reminded to be considerate of other drivers. Anyone caught driving below the speed limit and preventing others from passing can be issued a violation ticket for Slow Driving, which carries a $121 fine.

Door-to-door salespeople in town

Police are aware of door-to-door salespeople in the Ashcroft/Cache Creek area, about whom several complaints have been received. Police ascertained that they were not engaging in criminal activities, and that while their sales tactics could be aggressive, that was not illegal. Homeowners are warned to be careful about contractors who approach them about doing work.
