Firefighters knocked down a fire in Chilliwack home Sunday morning, May 30.
Around 6:45 a.m. 25 firefighters from halls one and four responded to a call from the 5000 block of Webster Road.
The homeowner was alerted by a smoke alarm and discovered smoke and the smell of burning plastic in the garage. When firefighters entered the garage, they saw a small fire burning on top of an off-road all-terrain vehicle (ATV), giving off heavy grey smoke.

They quickly doused the fire, but the garage sustained heavy smoke damage and there was significant fire damage to the ATV.
After the fire was extinguished, the tenants were able to go back into the home, and there were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental but it is still under investigation by the Chilliwack Fire Department.
Chilliwack Fire Department reminds homeowners that working smoke alarms save lives, cutting the risk of dying in a home fire in half. Smoke alarms should be installed and maintained in every home.
