ATV goes over embankment

Inexperience cited as possible cause

Inexperience is being cited as a possible cause of two young people plunging over a bank in an ATV on the weekend.

Oceanside RCMP Corporal Richard van de Pol said the incident happened Saturday evening in Nanoose Bay, when a young woman tried her hand at driving a Polaris Ranger ATV with a male on the back.

“She apparently said she wanted to try driving it, but soon after she started to drive she started fishtailing and lost control and the ATV went over the embankment,” van de Pol said. “They were able to climb up the embankment several metres and the driver was found laying along the roadway, complaining of back pain and the male passenger had an injury to his wrist.”

No charges were laid in the incident and the two were taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for observation.
