A murder is being planning at the Mary Winspear Centre.
Everyone will be a detective when the Memorial Park Society hosts a three-course dinner with a side of murder and mayhem to raise funds for Blue Heron Park.
“There’s a real trail system there, with a lot of big trees,” said Pat Currie, chair of the Memorial Park Society and the main organizer for the murder mystery dinner theatre. “Every time the wind blows, branches come down.”
While the soccer fields are taken care of through agreements with Peninsula soccer, the highly-used trail system and picnic area don’t generate income.
“It’s a park we need help maintaining,” Currie said.
With fundraising in mind, a board member suggested a small murder mystery dinner, and the idea grew into Murder with a Vengeance; an event where 240 people will wine, dine and have a stab at solving a murder.
“I remember going to one in Edmonton,” Currie recalled. “It was fun … everyone takes a crack at solving the mystery.”
Slixer Entertainment, which offers professional murder mysteries across the country, will provide local actors that will help draw the audience into the mystery. Food for Thought catering will make sure everyone is well fed.
“If it does well, we’ll do this a couple times a year,” said Philip Sutton, theatre manager at the Mary Winspear Centre.
It’s also a double mystery, he added. They’ve conjured up a mystery box to raffle off.
“Whoever wins it will be pleased,” he promised.
Murder With a Vengeance will be held at the Mary Winspear Centre on April 16. Ticket sales close April 9.
Tickets are $500 for a table of eight until March 30 then $70 each, available at the box office 250-656-0275.
