Vanderhoof’s local RCMP detachment received 103 calls for service and lodged 14 prisoners in the past week.
Incoming high traffic weekend
With the Metallion Festival to take place on Aug. 12 by Brookside Resort and Vanderhoof International Airshow on Aug. 13, the police encourages locals to make appropriate transportation plans in light of the increased population in town.
Additional resources will allow the RCMP to have more visibility and patrols throughout the weekend.
Thefts, big and small
From high valued items at commercial properties to minor thefts at unlocked vehicles, property crime is continuing in town.
The police encourages residents to report all cases and be vigilant, such as keeping valuables out of vehicles and behind locked doors.
Gas thefts update
People who were involved with some gas theft files in Vanderhoof were arrested by Prince George RCMP earlier this month. They were well known to police in the area from Fort St. James to Prince George.
While the police hopes gas thefts will decrease as a result, investigation continues for other suspects.
Bail violations increase
The number of release condition breaches continued to go up, as a result of RCMP focus on repeat offenders as a crime reduction strategy.
High priority offenders are advised to: a) change their ways to become law-abiding citizens and add value to the community, b) leave the community, or c) go back to jail.
Pokemon Go-ing in Vanderhoof
While some suspicious person files lodged recently are believed to be related to players of Pokemon Go — a virtual reality game based on real-world mapping — no injuries were reported so far.
The police urges players to be weary when invited by unknown people to meet for game-related reasons; there has been reports — though none in Vanderhoof — of those who use related games to lure vulnerable persons and take advantage of them,
