Qualicum Beach Councillor Barry Avis isn’t planning to run for the leadership of a political party, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have some aspirations beyond the council table.

Avis made that abundantly clear last week when he announced his intention to run for two different positions.

“For the last seven year I have been on the library board and in those years I have sat on the executive board,” he said. “I have put my name forward to be chair for next year.”

The board serves both Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. The election of the new board is slated to occur at the end of this month.

As well, Avis said he hopes to move ever upwards in the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities (AVICC), which is made up of municipalities both on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.

“I have been on the executive for the last four years, the last two of which I have served as second vice-president,” he said. “This year I will put my name forward for first vice-president.”
