The Southeast Fire Centre has issued an update regarding fire activity, something best kept top of mind with the heat the region is experiencing.

Since Thursday, July 18 the centre said it has had 29 incidents of improper or dangerous campfire use; most occurring over the past weekend.

Two small fires in the Boundary and Cranbrook zones (one caused by lightning at Stewart Creek and another with an as yet undetermined cause at Kikomun Creek) were hit from the air by tankers and crews on the ground. Both have been contained.

The fine for lighting, fuelling or using a campfire against regulation is $345. If a fire escapes, those responsible can be held liable for all suppression costs.

To report a wildfire, call 1-800-663-5555 or #5555 from a mobile phone. For more information about wildfires in B.C., visit www.bcwildfire.ca
