Awards recognize excellence

THE BUSINESS community turned out Oct. 22 for the annual Business Excellence Awards organized by the Terrace and District Chamber of Commerce.

The customer service award, sponsored by Hawkair Aviation, was won by Wightman & Smith Insurance.

The family friendly business award, sponsored by Make Children First, was won by the Creative Zone.

The tourism excellence award, sponsored by Bear Creek Contracting and Lakelse Air, was won by the George Little House.

The excellence in innovation award, sponsored by Northwest Science Innovation, was won by Horizon Dental.

The home-based business award, sponsored by Canadian Tire, was won by Digital Photography by Cara DeVaney.

The contributor to the arts award, sponsored by Astral Media, was won by Diane Francis, Uniglobe Travel.

The employee of the year award, sponsored by RBC and Terrace Totem Ford, was won by Andrew van Dyk of Save On Foods.

The volunteer of the year award, sponsored by the Terrace and District Chamber of Commerce and Volunteer Terrace was won by Kerry Giesbrecht.

The newsmaker of the year award, sponsored by The Terrace Standard and CFNR, was won by My Mountain Co-op, the regional non-profit group working toward the purchase of the Shames Mountain ski facility.

The rookie of the year award, sponsored by National Car Rental, was won by Baker Extraordinaire.

The community booster award, sponsored by Northern Savings Credit Union, was won by Yvonne Moen.

The retailer of the year award, sponsored by Nechako Northcoast, was won by Canadian Tire.

The executive of the year award, sponsored by Scotiabank was shared by two people, Lynn Hughes and Lorna Sandhals, from Northwest Training.

The company of the year award, sponsored by the Business Development Bank, was won by Progressive Ventures.

The green award, sponsored by Enbridge Gateway Pipelines, was won by the Greater Terrace Beautification Society.

The welcoming and inclusive award, sponsored by Skeena Diversity, was won by Cafenara.
