100 Mile House RCMP responded to 79 calls for service during the past week. Some highlights are as follows:
Road rage
On April 8, 2017, RCMP were called to a report of a road rage incident on Highway 97 southbound toward 100 Mile House.
It was determined that two male drivers heading southbound had become involved in a dispute on the roadway after incidents of tailgating. One of the drivers motioned the other to pull over, likely to settle the issue physically.
Both drivers pulled over to the side of the road and one driver produced an axe.
The other driver, upon seeing this, left and called the RCMP. The driver who had produced the axe was located, stopped and subsequently arrested.
After speaking with both drivers charges were not requested. The axe was turned over and seized by RCMP.
Lost hiker
On April 7, 2017, at 12:34 PM, RCMP received a report of an overdue elderly male who was walking his dog in the area of Walker Valley in the 108 Mile Ranch.
The male was expected to return by 10 a.m. When he failed do so, family members called the RCMP.
After locating the vehicle belonging to the male, RCMP called Search and Rescue to conduct a search.
Members of Search and Rescue and the RCMP conducted a ground search in the area of the 108 and Walker Valley. At approximately 8:30 PM the male was located north of Lac La Hache.
The male was disorientated and confused but physically fine. The male was assessed by EHS at the scene and brought home to family members.
Break and enter
On April 7, 2017, RCMP were called to a report of a break and enter at a residence on the 7000 block of Airmail Rd. in Roe Lake.
A resident of the home came home to find that his window had been broken. Vehicle and footprints were found at the scene.
It did not appear that entry was made and it is believed the incident occurred during daylight hours on the day of the report.
Shoplifting
On April 6, 2017, RCMP were called to a report of shoplifting from a business in the Cariboo Mall.
A male described as a First Nations, 30-40 years old was observed by staff leaving the store with blankets. The staff member obtained a license plate of the vehicle the male entered.
The investigation is ongoing and RCMP will be following up with the registered owner of the vehicle.
Update
On April 6, the Toyota Yaris which was stolen earlier at a residence on Moose Point Rd was found abandoned at the 100 Mile House Hospital.
The vehicle was towed for forensic examination and the investigation is continuing.
Invalid license
On April 4, 2017, Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services were conducting a patrol on Highway 24 in the Lone Butte area.
A vehicle was stopped for speeding. The male driver was found to have an invalid driver’s license and also showed symptoms of alcohol consumption. The male provided a road side breath test which resulted in a warning.
The male was issued a three day immediate driving prohibition and was issued violation tickets for no driver’s license and driving contrary to restrictions, as the male was required to have an interlock device in his vehicle which was not installed in the vehicle he was operating.
