B.C. Elections: 6,400 mail-in ballots received for Chilliwack-Kent so far

Chilliwack-Kent’s election is far too close to call, but progress toward final results is rolling right along.

Elections B.C. released a progress report as the organization certifies piles of absentee or mail-in ballots throughout the province. Elections B.C. is receiving certification envelopes sent from where they are cast to the electoral district. As of Thursday (Oct. 29), Chilliwack-Kent has received 6,434 certification envelopes.

Chilliwack-Kent voters requested 7,650 mail-in ballots, meaning there are 1,216 mail-in ballots – almost 16 per cent – that have either not been returned via mail or not received as of Thursday.

NDP’s Kelli Paddon (5,199 votes) currently holds a narrow lead over incumbent and ex-B.C. Liberal Laurie Throness (5,004); a margin of 195 votes separates the two.
