A recent release by the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Investment says B.C. exports are starting off 2011 up 21 per cent.
The release claims January’s domestic exports exceeded $2.4 billion, increasing over $410 million from January 2010.
Forestry exports were the top of the pile, up 21 per cent to a total $691 million.
Increases in other areas included energy products up 10 per cent, industrial goods up 58 per cent, and agricultural and fishing products up 11 per cent.
Asia was a key factor, with China playing a large role with a 79 per cent increase in exports to the resource-hungry country, but Japan, South Korea and Taiwan also had more than 20 per cent increases in exports from B.C..
Exports to the United States were up only three per cent over last January however.
