West Shore RCMP is investigating several complaints involving the re-sale of fraudulent Taylor Swift concert tickets.
Mounties have received at least four complaints of fraud through Facebook Marketplace and local community Facebook groups, according to a release from the Vancouver Island detachment Friday (April 12).
Police say the complainants told police that they contacted the seller who claimed to have Taylor Swift concert tickets for re-sale. They then sent money to the seller, but didn’t receive the tickets.
Multiple people have been scammed and lost money. West Shore RCMP Cpl. Nancy Saggar said investigators believe the Facebook account selling the tickets was hacked, and their identity was assumed and used to defraud people.
Saggar said RCMP is continuing the investigation and seeking any other potential victims. People can contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
Police remind people there is always a risk to purchasing items privately listed for sale online, especially popular concert tickets.
