A new procedure has been set for British Columbia’s homeowner grants, starting with 2021.
The province has changed the homeowner grant application process and municipalities can no longer accept grant applications.
All eligible homeowners can now apply for their homeowner grant, either online or by telephone, directly to the province. Property owners will need their property tax notice or assessment notice to apply.
Program eligibility is unchanged; however, to avoid penalties and interest, applications should be submitted before Sept. 30, 2021.

A payment is not required to claim the grant. Property owners can request help from a family member or friend to assist with the application. The status of which, can be checked by using the application confirmation number.
The best time to apply is after the property tax notice has been received, but before property taxes are due. The City of Parksville tax notices will be mailed by the end of May, 2021.
Steps on how to apply are detailed in a release by the city, or can be viewed online at www.parksville.ca.
