You're going to want to bundle up for the week ahead as the temperatures plummet in the Southern B.C.

Baby, it’s about to get cold outside

Penticton and the rest of the Okanagan in for a chilly change of weather for the the week ahead

If you haven’t already done so, it’s definitely time to break out your cold-weather gear as an Arctic front begins to muscle its way into the Okanagan for Monday afternoon.

“By Tuesday, the Arctic air will settle across the region and remain through the end of the week,” Environment Canada said in a special weather statement issued Saturday.

The meteorological agency is predicting daytime highs to plunge to -8 C on Wednesday, with nighttime lows around the -13 C mark. That would rival the low-temperature record of -14.9 C set on that date in 1994 and trigger the opening of emergency shelters in the area.

Before the cold arrives, however, a weather system off the Pacific is expected to roll through the Southern Interior on Sunday that is expected to leave behind 10 to 20 centimetres of snow on mountain passes, including the Coquihalla.

In Penticton, Environment Canada is forecasting rain on Sunday morning, then just a chance of flurries Sunday night into Monday and clear skies for the days that follow.
