Backyard fires have been banned in Mission, due to hot and dry conditions.

Mission Fire Rescue Services have put a temporary ban on fires in the district, due to an increased risk of fire caused by recent hot, dry weather.

The ban includes recreational backyard fires started by residents with a permit.

Environment Canada has warned Fraser Valley residents about a heat wave this week.

Temperatures were expected to hit the low 30s, with Thursday being the hottest.

Inland areas will be the warmest, reaching 32 C or higher and areas close to water will be cooler, around 25 C, according to Environment Canada.

While the weather is predicted to cool down by a couple degrees on Friday and through the weekend, above-average temperatures are expected to carry into next week.
