Bail decision expected June 24 for man accused of assault on Penticton beach

Thomas Brayden Kruger-Allen, 22, appeared at Penticton court today for his bail hearing

A decision on whether or not a man the man accused of the assault that led to a Penticton resident being put into an induced coma will get bail is expected Monday, June 24, at the Penticton court house.

Thomas Brayden Kruger-Allen, 22, is currently being held in the Okanagan Correctional Centre in Oliver and appeared via closed circuit television in court on June 20 for a bail hearing. He is facing two charges of assault, one charge of aggravated assault and one charge of sexual assault related to an incident that took place on May 3 at a beach bonfire in Penticton.

One of the complainants, Bradley Eliason, suffered an extensive brain injury when he was allegedly assaulted and fell, hitting his head on concrete. This required brain surgery which removed a portion of his skull to address swelling and he was placed into an induced coma for a matter of weeks.

According to an update by Eliason’s wife, Chelsea Townend, on a GoFundMe page fundraising for his medical expenses, he is now conscious and able to move and speak. The extent of his injuries and the impact it will have on him going forward are still unknown.

Judge Michelle Daneliuk presided over Thursday’s bail hearing for Kruger-Allen.
