Bail hearing in “Mr. Big” sting adjourned

Mr Big sting

Kamloops This Week

An Edmonton murder suspect alleged to have stabbed an undercover RCMP officer near Barriere last month has to wait a little bit longer to find out if he’s going to get bail.

Mark Lindsay, the son of former Edmonton police chief John Lindsay, was expected to appear in Kamloops provincial court Oct. 3, for a bail hearing.

It was adjourned until this week.

Lindsay, 24, was arrested by Kamloops RCMP near McLure in the early-morning hours of Sept. 21.

It’s believed he had been travelling in a pickup truck from Edmonton with an undercover Alberta Mountie, apparently as part of a Mr. Big sting operation.

In Barriere, it’s alleged Lindsay stabbed the undercover cop and stole the truck.

He was arrested after being stopped by a Kamloops RCMP roadblock.

Lindsay is now charged in Kamloops provincial court with one count each of robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon. He’s being held at Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre.

Mr. Big stings are elaborate investigations conducted by the RCMP, involving undercover operators posing as criminals involved in a sophisticated gang.

The undercover officers attempt to gain the trust of the target over a period of months, and then ask him to come clean about any previous crimes.

It’s not known which murder Lindsay is suspected in, and he’s never publicly been named a suspect.

However, his girlfriend, Dana Turner, has been missing for nearly two months.

She vanished two days after he got out of jail after pleading guilty to stabbing her in the head in June.

Lindsay is slated to appear in a Kamloops courtroom on Thursday, Oct. 13, for a bail hearing.

Police in B.C. and Alberta are not saying anything about Lindsay, and the story is going largely unreported.

RCMP media liaisons in both provinces have been citing a publication ban on the file, refusing to offer any comments. While there is a publication ban on Lindsay’s file in Kamloops, there has been no bail hearing and no evidence has yet been banned.

It is not yet known if his father will be present for that hearing, or if he’ll attempt to act as a surety for bail.

John Lindsay is now a deacon in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton.
