A deal has been reached between the Splatsin band, City of Armstrong and Township of Spallumcheen to renew a fire services agreement for three years.
The last agreement between the city and township to provide fire services to Splatsin located on First Nation lands near Hullcar Road and Salmon River Road expired on Dec. 31, 2014.
“Staff are to discuss exactly how many homes are in this coverage area,” said Armstrong Coun. Shirley Fowler.
City of Armstrong chief administrative officer Melinda Stickney said an updated coverage map and the exact number of homes in the area will be provided before the agreement is officially signed.
The three-year deal, effective from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2017, will see an annual increase of two per cent each year for the annual and residential household fees in the mutual aid agreement.
“The two per cent increase is in line with the general cost increases for the fire department,” said Spallumcheen deputy corporate officer Cindy Graves.
No other changes to the agreement were proposed.
