Bargain store opens up shop

Fields in Armstrong to become Bargain! Shop in September

Armstrong is getting a bargain.

Fields in Armstrong is becoming The Bargain! Shop after the discount store company announced it will acquire 10 retail locations from Hudson’s Bay Company.

“Our expectation is that we will be taking possession of the store in Armstrong on Aug. 1 and have it open under The Bargain! Shop banner in September, that date is still to be determined,” said Tracey Mikita, vice-president of human resources for The Bargain! Shop.

As part of the agreement with Hudson’s Bay Company, Mikita said they expected to have all store managers join its organization Aug. 1.

“We will obviously need associates to staff the store and will be making hiring decisions at some point after Aug. 1 to fill the rest of the positions in the store,” said Mikita. “We are always looking for great talent, and will be looking for talented individuals from the communities we will be opening up within.”

The Bargain! Shop is also acquiring Fields stores in Agassiz, New Hazelton, Osoyoos and Squamish in B.C.

Acquiring the 10 Fields stores across Canada will give The Bargain! Shop 237 stores nationwide.
