Langley Township firefighters blocked 208th Street and nearby avenues as a fire destroyed an abandoned barn and scorched trees and grass.
The fire broke out sometime around 3:30 p.m., and sent a column of black smoke into the sky near 83rd Avenue.
The fire was on a vacant lot just south of the Willoughby Community Hall.
The empty barn was destroyed, and the fire also spread into some surrounding trees before Township firefighters doused the flames.
The fire was extinguished fairly quickly.
However, firefighters closed off 208th Street and 83rd Avenue while they ran hoses across the intersection.
Traffic was turned back, causing long lines.
