Barriere Legion supports community groups

Royal Canadian Legion Br. 242 (Barriere) handed out some generous cheques recently. Barriere Outdoor Club, Barriere First Responders, Barriere and District Food Bank Society, Barriere Hospice and NTAC (North Thompson Activity Centre) each received nearly $2,500 during a ceremony held in early March.

Royal Canadian Legion Br. 242 (Barriere) handed out some generous cheques recently. Barriere Outdoor Club, Barriere First Responders, Barriere and District Food Bank Society, Barriere Hospice and NTAC (North Thompson Activity Centre) each received nearly $2,500 during a ceremony held in early March.

The money came from the Legion branch’s gaming activities such as its meat draws.

The meat draw money is also used to provide about $3,000 each year for bursaries to Barriere Secondary School students, as well as between $700 and $1,000 per year to support a field trip for Barriere Elementary School students

Barriere Cadets received about the same amount as the other groups but its money came from the Poppy Fund, which is replenished each fall through the sale of poppies for Remembrance Day.
