Jill Hayward – Barriere Star/Journal
It was the most wonderful time of year for Barriere resident Kelvin Fadear when he won $1 million on Christmas Eve from the Dec. 24, 2016, Lotto 6/49 draw.
“I’m a millionaire,” Fadear told the Star/Journal in a short telephone interview from the BCLC’s Kamloops office on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017.
Asked how it felt to be a millionaire, Fadear replied, “I don’t know, I’ve never been one before.”
Fadear says he purchased his winning lottery ticket at the Knights Inn in Barriere.
What does he plan to do with the winnings?
“I’m going to put it in the bank and then divvy it up and give most of it to my kids,” said Fadear, “I’ll just keep a few dollars for myself in case I find something I like.”
Fadear, 76, has strong family roots in the community of Barriere, and after retiring from 21 years of service with the Vancouver Fire Department he moved back to the community to be close to family and friends.
