Basketball stars in the making

Season ends in fun intramural jamboree

The shouts and cheers of young voices echo through the halls.

Excitement isn’t out of place at Parkland secondary school, and the gym is often noisy, but the joyful sounds were a bit younger last week.

About 180 Grade 4 and 5 students converged on the secondary school last week in a basketball jamboree to end a successful intramural season at their individual schools.

“The goal behind it is to get as many kids interested as we can, so if they choose, they can pursue it in the community,” explained Tom Vickers, vice principal at KELSET who was on hand to coach.

Students from KELSET, Deep Cove and Sidney elementary schools took turns playing against each other in the fun event that continued over two days at Parkland.
