Since the onset of the pandemic, Golden has amassed 58 cases of COVID-19, according to new data from the BCCDC.
In January alone, Golden almost doubled its case count, with the BC CDC data showing the Golden area jumping from 32 cumulative cases in all of 2020, an increase of 26 cases in January alone.
This means that in the nearly one year since COVID-19 first came to B.C., Golden has had a rate of infection at approxiamtely 500.1-1000 cases per population of 100,0oo.
This is comparable to other ski communities such as Fernie, which is currently experiencing a community cluster and has 155 cumulative cases since January 2020.
Revelstoke has 163 cumulative cases, for a rate of 1500.1 – 2000 per 100,000 people.
The number of cases in an area does not represent the location of exposure, but the permanent address of the infected individual.
This means that the numbers presented by the BCCDC are an estimate of how many cases are in an area, with infections being attributed to what ever area the individual has as their permanent address.
