Bear spray incidents under investigation

Vernon RCMP are investigating two separate cases of people being bear sprayed.

Two incidents involving bear spray occurred within a couple of blocks of each other Wednesday.

“It’s hard to say at this time,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson, when asked if the cases are linked.

The first incident occurred at 8 p.m. in Polson Park when a 17-year-old individual was approached and sprayed with a chemical substance before the suspect departed, possibly in a silver SUV.

“The individual is being unco-operative with police and saying they didn’t know anything,” said Molendyk.

“It appears they knew each other.”

At about 8:30 p.m., someone entered the Blue Moon Esso on 25th Avenue and bear sprayed an individual.

The 23-year-old victim in that case also didn’t co-operate with the police and refused medical assistance.

The suspect in the second incident is described as a Caucasian and about six-feet-tall.

“If the public has information that may help with these incidents, we’re asking that they contact the RCMP,” said Molendyk.
