What appears to be a bunker on the eastern side of Middleton Mountain is not very visually appealing.
Regional District of North Okanagan board members have been told that the new water reservoir on the geographical landmark does not fit in with the natural surroundings.
“It’s a nice beige box. It’s a big box in the middle of the mountain,” said director Doug Dirk.
Dirk has received some comments from residents about the structure.
“I have had inquiries about whether there will be landscaping. The view is quite evident from across the valley,” he said.
“It’s quite big and trees will help (reduce the visual impact).”
RDNO staff say that the reservoir will blend with the grasslands on the mountain but landscaping has been delayed.
“We need to put another coat of paint on it until the trees can be planted,” said Zee Marcolin, acting engineering general manager.
However, painting has been delayed because the reservoir has developed a leak, which must be repaired.
“It’s an expected thing when you build concrete for water use,” said Marcolin of getting the consistency of the cement correct.
“It’s not a major leak. It’s more like seepage.”
