Beware black ice

Black ice season is here again.”We can get frost and ice on the roads at any time now,” said O’Brien’s Road and Bridge Maintenance’s Operations Manager Dennis Reindl. “Let’s try to get the winter season off without any accidents.”Mr. Reindl said that people need to leave themselves more time when travelling in the winter to allow for different road conditions. “We get a lot of microclimates on our highway, so people need to watch for that,” he said, explaining that the variations in altitude and proximity to the ocean can greatly change road conditions, so while it may be dry and mild in one area, there may still be black ice in another.Black ice is very hard to identify behind the wheel, Mr. Reindl said, and drivers should keep an eye on their thermometers, if their cars have them. “The most important thing is that people drive to conditions,” he said.
