Approximately 1,500 marijuana plants were seized during the bust of an elaborate indoor growing operation near Sayward.
The search of the rural property was carried out by RCMP from Sayward and other Island detachments on the morning of Feb. 10.
The first search warrant was to look for the alleged theft of power from B.C. Hydro. Once at the property, Mounties obtained a second search warrant for an out building and that’s where the grow op was found.
The plants were separated, depending on stages of growth, into four rooms and were under 60 lights.
A 30-year-old woman is facing charges, but police say she is not the property owner. The investigation is continuing.
Bogus bills passed
Police are warning the public to be on the lookout for counterfeit cash after two bogus $50 bills were passed last week.
The quality of the bills was poor, police said, and advised the public to have a close look at large denomination bills.
Residents attacked, bear sprayed
A 27-year-old man is facing charges following an alleged assault at a home on York Road.
Police were called to the residence on Friday, around 9 p.m., following a complaint from the three occupants.
It is alleged the culprit physically assaulted the trio and also used bear spray on them.
As officers were responding to the emergency call, the suspect fled on foot, but was found hiding nearby by the police dog.
Police are recommending he be charged with assault, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
Drunken woman assaults cops
A woman who is well known to police is facing charges after a violent, drunken incident.
On Friday, around 6:25 p.m., police were called to the Campbellton area where the intoxicated 23-year-old was found kicking and damaging vehicles.
As officers attempted to arrest her, she kicked and spat at the them. She was taking into custody and is facing charges of assaulting a police officer, obstruction and mischief. Her name was not released.
Suspected impaired driver flees crash
A man is facing charges following an accident on Friday night.
It was shortly before 11 p.m., when the 33-year-old man lost control of his vehicle, hit a light standard in the 2000 block of the Island Hwy. He also hit a transformer, located on the ground, which knocked out power in the Hilchey Road area.
Police say the men fled the scene but was found at a nearby convenience store. Officers detected signs of impairment, but the man refused to provide a breath sample.
He was arrested for failing to provide a breath sample, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and mischief.
On Sunday, around 10 p.m., a 26-year-old man lost control of his vehicle on Alder Street while adjusting his car stereo.
The vehicle mounted the curb and entered the parking lot for Campbell River City Hall. The out-of-control vehicle caused damage to four vehicles in the parking lot causing extensive damage.
The man was charged with driving without due care. No one was injured in the collision.
