Over 50 communities in British Columbia, including Fort St. James will be taking part in Bike to Work Week being held from May 30 – June 5.
Anyone can register at www.biketowork.ca and qualify for great prizes including a 14 day Vietnam Cycling Adventure for two from Exodus Travels.
Orlando Schmidt, President of Bike to Work BC Society, has been cycling to work for 14 years.
“Nothing beats how fantastic you feel when you arrive at work refreshed and ready for the day,” Schmidt said. “Unless maybe it’s the ride home where all the stress of the day slips away.”
And for kids biking to school, this encourages healthy living and gets them outside.
Schmidt has seen a lot of enthusiasm from kids, their teachers and parents participating in creative and fun ways across the province.
Teachers, parents and students can also register their classes or schools through the website.
According to Schmidt, Bike to Work Week has been growing in popularity with more and more communities signing up each year.
“Cycling to work or school can alleviate stress and also has environmental benefits. It’s also a fun way to connect with people,” Schmidt said.
Safety is also important and ICBC has provided cycling tips that can be found on Bike to Work website.
