Cyclists are being encouraged to sign up for Bike to Work Week starting this Monday, May 30 to June 5.
Local cyclists who sign up will log their route and kilometres and then are entered into draws for prizes.
The grand prize in B.C. this year is a cycling adventure for two in Vietnam.
Terrace and Smithers are continuing their annual friendly competition for who has the most participants.
For all local cyclists, there will be free basic tune-ups at the Farmer’s Market on May 28 to get set for Bike to Work Week.
On Friday during the week, June 3, there will be a free bicycle commuter breakfast stop between 7-9 a.m. on the Grand Trunk Pathway near the ice cream shop.
Several local businesses are also offering discounts for customers who show up on bikes and wearing a helmet.
Riding a bike to work instead of commuting via car promotes healthy lifestyles and thus prevention of health issues, and it decreases traffic and parking congestions, and contributes fewer tailpipe emissions, said a recent release.
